


GSA Art Program
Join us for this new edition of the Art Program! Students will create their own original works by learning about a variety of art styles, color aesthetics, famous artists, and viewing popular artwork. Experience interactive stories, games, and exciting workbook activities.

Volume 1: Expressionism
Location: Moto-Azabu, Tachikawa, Fukuoka Chikushino
In the Art Programs monthly topic, you will learn that Expressionism focuses on distorted perspectives to create strong feelings in art! Throughout lessons, you will learn about expressionism, expressionist artists, and their special techniques, view unique artwork, give critiques with your peers, and participate in fun workbook activities. Complete each lesson with a distinct expressionism artwork to share with friends and family.

Volume 2: Abstract Art
Location: Moto-Azabu, Tachikawa, Fukuoka Chikushino
In this colorful course, you will learn that Abstract Art focuses on shapes, colors, and lines! Throughout the course, view amazing abstract artwork, give critiques with your peers, and play fun games while learning about four abstract artists and their special techniques. Finish each lesson by creating a vibrant abstract artwork and share it with friends and family.
In this course, we will learn about: Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, Georgia O’Keeffe, Piet Mondrian

Volume 3: Surrealism
Location: Moto-Azabu, Tachikawa
In the Art Programs monthly topic, you will learn that Surrealism focuses on mysterious, dreamlike art that looks real but couldn’t possibly be! Throughout the lesson, you will learn about surrealism, surrealism artists, and their special techniques, view unique artwork, give critiques with your peers, and participate in fun worksheet activities. Complete each one-time class by creating a unique surrealism artwork to share with friends and family.
In this course, we will learn about: Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Frida Kahlo, Max Ernst

Volume 4: Minimalism
Location: Tachikawa
Students will learn about one Minimalist artist in each lesson by discussing their notable works, before delving into creating their own minimalist-inspired masterpieces. Students will get to use a variety of mediums and explore several art techniques as they approach each unique project.
In this course, we will learn about: : Frank Stella, Jiro Yoshihara, Dan Flavin, Anne Truitt

Objectives
In this program, students will be focusing on how to improve these core skills:
- Speaking: learn new vocabulary, answer questions and engage in classroom discussion with peers; For example: “I am using the smaller round brush.” “My favorite artist is Monet, who is your favorite artist?”
- Creativity and self-expression: students will utilize their creative mindset to apply self-expression in each lesson by creating art that represents a thought or memory and is based on exploration.
- Problem-solving: in each lesson students will apply hands-on practice of skills in reasoning and understanding. How do I make this? How can I draw this? What colors can I make when I mix two different ones together?
- Perspective: consider a situation from a different point of view and put yourself in the other person’s position to imagine what you would feel, think, or do. Students will learn about and apply perspective when looking at famous artworks, artists’ lives, or examining and discussing their peer’s artwork.
